The Reeds, Reaching the Unreached in the Amazon Jungle
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then
shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they
believe in him of whom they have not heard? Romans 10:13-14
Saving the rain Forest One Soul at a Time.
There are many
villages in the Amazon that still do not have the Gospel. Our focus will be
river ministry where we will travel from village to village surveying,
evangelizing, discipling believers and planting churches.
A Word from our Pastor.
It is my pleasure to
introduce Jon and Jessica Reed as missionaries sent out of Canton Baptist Temple
to the unreached tribal groups in the Amazon jungle. They both grew up in
Christian homes and have fully surrendered themselves to God’s calling upon
their lives. The Reeds are a dedicated young couple who love the Lord and have a
passion for souls.
In a day and time when people are obsessed with what they can get out of life, I
find it refreshing to see young people who are willing to give their lives in
order that the Great Commission might be accomplished. Jon and Jessica have been
actively involved in the ministry of their local church where they gained
valuable experience for their future ministry. In my opinion, they exemplify
servant leadership which you will see in their actions and attitude. It is with
great confidence that I recommend Jon and Jessica to you for prayer and
financial support. They need your help to fulfill the burden that God has placed
upon their hearts to reach the unreached. They will initially be working
alongside veteran missionaries in learning the language and culture of the
people, but it is their desire to eventually evangelize, disciple and establish
local churches in the Amazon jungle through a riverboat ministry. This is a
unique approach and yet a very viable concept to proclaim the Gospel to tribal
people scattered up and down the Jutai River in northwestern Brazil. Please
consider giving them the opportunity to come and present their burden to you and
your people. If God so leads, Jon & Jessica would be honored to partner with you
in reaching the lost souls throughout the Amazon jungle. If you have any
questions that I can answer, feel free to call me at your convenience. May the
Lord bless you as you strive to evangelize the world with the Gospel. Sincerely
in Christ, Mike Frazier .
Jonathan Reed’s Testimony & Call to Missions.
I grew up in a Christian home
with godly parents attending Canton Baptist Temple. At the age of 5, I accepted
Christ as my personal Savior. When I was 7, my parents were called into missions
work and went to Northern Canada. At the age of 15, I started thinking that the
church thing and missions work was okay, but it wasn’t for me, especially at my
age.
I started getting into the world’s crowd and trying to fulfill the desires of
the flesh. Two years later, we had a group of teens come up to Canada to help
with VBS. During their week with us, I saw ten young men ages 15-23, praying
together. Through their example, the reality that God is not only for the older
generation but for all ages hit me so hard that I started seeking the Lord again
and reading my Bible every day. I was called to missions during my freshman year
of Bible College. The following year I was burdened for Jungle missions work and
heard about the unreached people groups in the Amazon. When challenged in church
to do the “impossible” for God, I went forward and gave my life to reaching the
remote tribes of the Amazon jungle.
Jessica Reed’s Testimony & Call to Missions.
I am so thankful to have been
raised in a Christian home on a ranch in South Dakota. My family was very
involved in our church, Sunday School, and Awana Ministries, through which I
heard about my sin and need for a Savior. Then I heard about Jesus and His
payment for my sins through His death on the cross and resurrection! I trusted
Jesus as my Savior when I was 6 years old.
At the age of 12, I made three significant decisions that would affect my life
forever. I recommited my life to Christ, began having my own personal quiet
times, and then at our church missions conference, I dedicated my life to God’s
service however and wherever He wanted to use me. This desire for missions work
continued to grow through high school, mission trips, and college. I attended
Moody Bible Institute and God gave me a heart for the unreached. Two years
later, I found out that God had been burdening and preparing both mine and Jon’s
hearts for remote unreached people groups at the same time. When I was dating
Jon, he shared in detail his call to the Amazon jungle and that is when I knew
God had prepared our hearts for serving Him together in missions.
Our Goals.
• To finish support-raising
• To learn the language and culture
• To build a houseboat that will double as a mobile Bible School
• To work with national pastors and other missionaries on the Amazon River
• To build friendships, evangelize, and disciple nationals
• To establish churches among indigenous people in villages along the Jutai
River
• To contact the Bia Tribe and other uncontacted tribes on the Jutai River
